Former defence land at Georges Heights now boasts a boutique child care centre. Sally’s Place is the newest tenant in Headland Park, Mosman, one of Sydney’s most spectacular urban parklands.
The day care centre is located in a former 1913 army barracks building in Suakin Drive and joins a range of businesses operating in this bushland setting with harbour views and close to walking tracks, lookout, cafes and beaches.
The barracks building has been refurbished by the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust and incorporates many of the federation features of the original building in its conversion to a day child care centre.
Owner, Sally Lock has moved with her family from Perth to establish this beautifully situated centre. Ms Lock is an experienced child care centre operator and prides herself on providing exceptional care to children and a comprehensive educational program.
‘Sally’s Place offers long day care for children aged 0-5 in a safe, tranquil environment with a spacious, creatively designed playground. Our programs are extensive, fun and stimulating. All are run by qualified early childhood educators and senior, experienced staff. We employ a qualified chef who will prepare delicious well balanced meals,’ Ms Lock said.
‘The centre has a unique three building concept: the main building with the three play rooms, a separate art area and an administration building. The art room is in a separate building where children can demonstrate all their creative abilities and start projects and return to them on their next day of care.
‘This is a place where children can experience the very best that a child care centre can offer. I am committed to giving every child the opportunity to learn and develop to their full potential. We have created a wonderful place where children come first. We are passionate and committed to delivering quality child care.’
Geoff Bailey, Executive Director, Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, said the addition of a child centre at Georges Heights broadens the appeal of Headland Park and contributes to the sense of community being created by the interaction of businesses and visitors.
‘Sally’s Place was the successful applicant in a tender process that has taken over two years to finalise. We welcome Ms Lock and her team and look forward to the child care centre becoming an integral part of the park,’ Mr Bailey said.
Sally’s Place will be officially opened by Hon Minister Tony Abbott on Thursday 26th July at 2.30 pm.

Constructive Recruitment doubles turnover and triples staff in two years July 13, 2007

Technical recruitment specialist Constructive Recruitment celebrated the new financial year with dramatic growth results for 2006/07.
This phenomenal growth tops off two very successful years for the business, which saw Constructive Recruitment more than double its turnover from 2004/05, triple its staff and open two more offices in Brisbane and Perth.
“Our turnover was $1.7 million in the 2004/05 financial year and we employed eight staff in one office in Sydney,” Director David Marriott said.
“By the next year (2005/06) our turnover had jumped to $2.4 million, we opened a new office in Brisbane and our staff numbered 13 between the two offices. This financial year sees our turnover at $3.8 million, a new office in Perth and 27 staff working in the three offices,” Mr Marriott said.
Constructive Recruitment attributes its growth in turnover and staff to its vast experience in technical recruitment, great customer service and commitment to hiring – and keeping – great staff.
“Our philosophy has been that all our clients within the technical and operations sector should receive detailed personal attention and a first class service from our team. We have the industry knowledge to provide the best-qualified staff, effectively and efficiently. We are experts in finding the right culture and personality fit for both the jobseeker and employer,” Mr Marriott said.
“We understand the effect staff retention has on turnover, productivity and our business’s long-term success and we offer a favorable work environment, career development and great work-life balance so our staff are happy,” he said.
While specialising in fixing recruitment solutions for its clients, Constructive Recruitment has a great staffing record itself with only two consultants leaving since the business began more than four years ago.
Constructive Recruitment expects its phenomenal growth rate to continue into the coming financial year.
“The current employment market offers very favourable conditions for our business’s growth and our budget projections show we can expect to double our turnover again in the 2007/08 financial year,” Mr Marriott said.
“We have worked hard to make Constructive Recruitment the strong business it is and this work, along with Australia’s thriving labour conditions, have made significant contributions to our growth increase,” he said.

From rubbish to new beginnings – Cambodian jewellery made by ‘waste-pickers’ July 6, 2007

Taylor & Khoo is proud to announce the launch of its New Beginnings jewellery range – a gorgeous selection of necklaces and bracelets made from recycled rubbish.
The New Beginnings range is not just about finding a new beginning for recycled products, it’s also about helping people in poverty create their own “new beginning”.
The New Beginnings jewellery – which is similar to strands of luscious beads in a variety of colours – are predominantly created by Cambodian “waste-pickers”. By creating and selling this jewellery, these waste-pickers are able to earn an income. They can find an alternative and safe form of work instead of spending hours trawling dump sites salvaging materials.
“We’re thrilled to be offering this jewellery in the Taylor & Khoo store in Skygarden Shopping Centre in Pitt Street Mall,” says Valerie Khoo, co-founder of Taylor & Khoo, a unique accessories and fashion label with a 100 per cent social cause – to support disadvantaged groups in Cambodia. “The necklaces and bracelets come in a huge range of colours in a very contemporary style. You can wear a single strand, or multiple strands.”
Apart from the fact the jewellery looks good, Valerie says that they jewellery symbolises what Taylor & Khoo is all about – providing a second chance for people, a new beginning.
According to Cambodia’s Community Sanitation And Recycling Organization (CSARO) waste pickers in Cambodia are:
In poverty
Unable to enrol in school
Have no capital to start business
Are helping parents to support the family
Have no skills to be employed in other sectors.
Have low levels of literacy
Pick waste in the dump piles, along the streets, trash bins and dump sites.
Earn about around US$ 0.50 to $ 3.00 from the waste.
Are vulnerable to some common diseases.
“We like the fact that making this jewellery gives them an alternative to sifting around rubbish all day,” says Valerie. “If we can create a market for their work, they are effectively running their own cottage industry.”
Valerie says that the New Beginnings jewellery is part of a range of recycled products made in Cambodia which are being given a new life. “We’re known for producing beautiful silk clothes and handbags form Cambodia,” says Valerie. “We’re still producing these beautiful items but have now added a twist to what we offer – edgier, funkier products made from unique materials.”
Taylor & Khoo will also be offering Pop Art Purses made from recycled milk and fruit juice cartons, shopping bags made from handwoven plastic bags and computer carry bags made from rubber tyres.
The New Beginnings necklaces are $19.95 and bracelets are $7.95.
